Sayawan sa Village

Published Quarterly * 2nd & 3rd Quarter/Apr-Sep, 2007

(Gody R. Olaso – Publisher)

The Second Quarter (April-June, 2007) was indeed a very colorful one. First the annual “pabasa” held at the San Lorenzo Ruiz Center in Jamaica during the Holy Week followed by Easter celebration on Apri 8th at Our Lady of Pompei Church. The Filipino Pastoral Ministry children went on an egg- hunting trip inside Fr. Demo Hall right after the Easter Mass, then eating and line dancing followed.

Sayawan Sa Village sponsored by the Sto. Nino Prayer Groups of Manhattan, Queens and Bronx on April 21st also became a very successful fund-raising event and assured a successful Mayflower

Festival (Flores de Mayo). Flowers were offered by the children every Sunday to our Virgin Mary. May 13th was Mother’s Day, then the Santacruzan Sa Village on May 27th. Together with Father’s Day on June 17th, the Fiesta Ng Sto. Nino was celebrated without a splinter. There was no breaking of a group nor a break-up of relationship as well as no hurt feelings nor anger felt compared to last year’s celebration.

Everything went smoothly as planned that everybody went on to celebrate the start of our Third Quarter with fireworks, i.e., the 4th of July BBQ Party held at the compound of the Filipino Pastoral Ministry. Since July & August were vacation months, all activities were confined to the regular

Sunday’s social gathering, birthday celebrations and wedding anniversaries right after the Filipino Mass at 3PM. Two field trips were also organized - the first one to Lake George upstate and the second one to Niagara Falls, US & Canadian sides. In between, preparation went underway for the coming San Lorenzo Ruiz Feast Day held at the Immaculate Comcupetion Church on September 30th in Jamaica Hills, NY. After the 3PM Mass, procession around the church’s premises and a very sumptuous reception followed. As a whole, it was a wonderful Spring & Summer of 2007!

Husband: No! He told to me to go home and carry my Cross!

Police: “DNA” na!
Reporter: Ano po ‘yong DNA?
Police: “Di Namin Alam!”

The first "Sayawan sa Villages" was held on April 6, 1991 at OLPC Demo Hall. It stated as a fund raising for the Santo Nino Fiesta celebration and because of its success it has become as annual celebration after Easter Sunday. In 1991, Sayawan held at churches hall was not advertised but today "Sayawan" has become popular that it has been followed by other Filipino groups in other parishes for fund raising.
