The Management Committee of the Filipino Pastoral Ministry

The Management Committee of the Filipino Pastoral Ministry of Our Lady of Pompei held its first meeting on Feb 7 and got down to business in formulating ways to improve the programs and activities of the FPM in order to better serve the community. Msgr. Romulo Montero, the FPM Director met with the newly formed Management Committee, a consultative body, represented by the Finance Committee Chairman – Ernie Bugarin, Worship Ministry Coordinator – Ed Pascual, Education Ministry Coordinator – Helen Macatulad, Service Ministry Coordinator – Marilou Bugarin, Secretariat Chairman – Araceli Medrano and Fr. Mike Lagrimas, advisor.

After a year of consultation meetings and pastoral planning, a new organizational structure of the FPM was formed. It was certainly a welcome change - the sharing and more people working together in pursuing one goal. The officers and members have gone through formation program and have expressed commitment to implement the Pastoral Program and to pursue the vision of the FPM as a community of disciples ministering to Filipinos as a welcoming church in New York.

Happy New Year to All!

We welcome the new year with optimism, we hope and pray for a better year for all of us, for our country and throughout the world.

The Filipino Pastoral Ministry of Our Lady of Pompei started the New Year with the celebration giving honor and praise to Poong Hesus Nazareno. Poon Hesus Nazareno is a popular devotion in the Philippines that was launched in New York on January 9, 2000. We were not certain if the devotion will be successful then but the attendance during the launching proved that you can count on the Filipino’s support. We are grateful to the late Fr. Bobby Sison, who initiated the devotion who strongly believed that wherever we Filipinos are, we carry our devotion with us always. The success of the Poon Hesus Nazareno devotion at Pompei and now with the extension at the San Lorenzo Ruiz Scalabrini Center in Jamaica, has proven him right. Ten years later, the outpouring of devotion and support from the devotees of the Poon Hesus Nazareno was very inspiring.

We had a great a celebration of the POON HESUS NAZARENO SA VILLAGE FIESTA on January 03, 2010 at Our Lady of Pompei Church in New York. We are grateful to all friends and devotees who braved the bitterly cold weather to attend the fiesta celebration. Some of the highlights were

The medals were blessed by Msgr. Romy Montero, the Director of the Filipino Pastoral Minstry. FPM Laksambayan Night

The Filipino Pastoral Ministry of Our Lady of Pompei celebrated its 21st anniversary with a dinner dance held at the Fr. Demo Hall on October 24. It was a successful night and the attendance was great. The faithful supporters came despite the heavy rain and cold weather. Award of Recognition were given to the 2008 and 2009 Hermano and Hermana Mayores of the different fiesta celebrations of the Filipino Pastoral Ministry. Poon Hesus Nazareno : Bobby and Nelia Villanueva -2008, Jun and Amelia Makinano – 2009; Santakrusan sa Village: Noemi Alfaro – 2008, Nelia Cloma – 2009; Santo Nino Fiesta: Josie Bueno – 2008, Corazon del Mar- 2009; Baclaran sa Village: Ben and Angie Pena – 2008, Mel and Lou Escobar – 2009; Nativity of Our Lady: Joe and Linda de la Cruz - 2009.

A Dance Extravaganza was performed by the members of the FPM choreographed by Malou Bugarin during the program. The rigid practice twice a week paid off during the performance.

The singing priests added some excitement to the party with their rendition of some “dancerous songs” according to Fr. Mike Lagrimas, who led the singing with Fr. Romy Montero, Fr. Nil Villaviza, Fr. Romy Hontiveros and Bro. Adolfo while the guests dance.

The food was good, thanks to the “Kitchen staff” led by Marilyn Castillo. Thank you to all the young ones who helped in the serving. Likewise, thank you to Susan Gamallo for the decorations, Malou Bugarin for the choreography, the DJ, Bobby Villanueva and to everybody who contributed their time and talent and resources to make the FPM 21st anniversary successful.
